JET REPS are intense and explosive partial range of motion repetitions performed at the end of a standard set.
At the end of a set when you cannot complete another full range of motion (ROM) rep, doing a JET REP will stress the muscles beyond the point of normal failure. By doing a JET REP at the end of each set you are able to pump maximum blood flow into the target muscle when it’s already at it’s weakest point- the end of a standard set. Increased ”pump” in the target muscle and a huge spike in strength levels make a JET REP an extremely valuable training tool in reaching your destination physique. And some scientific evidence suggests that workouts that create a greater muscular “pump” may lead to faster muscle growth.
This is what Arnold Schwarzenegger had to say about the subject in the immortal movie, Pumping Iron:
“The most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is ‘the pump.’ Let’s say you train your biceps. The blood is rushing into your muscles. Your muscles get a really tight feeling, like your skin is going to explode any minute. It’s like somebody blowing air into your muscles. There’s no better feeling in the world.”
So, instead of performing endless compound or un-focused general lifts hoping that your body will take on “the look” on its own, isolating the target muscle with JET REPS will take you there directly, filling in the blanks and creating the shapes and proportions that the human brain craves, while simultaneously enhancing the appearance of the muscle you already have. They won’t make you faster or jump higher, but they’ll make you look significantly more impressive and muscular. Make sense?
My second unique training tip is called, the ''Engorge Phase''
The Engorging Phase is performed at the end of your JET REP. When you go into your engorge phase, you need no weights at all. The engorge phase is a ten second flexed pose of the target muscle group you’re training, dramatically flexing the muscle you’re working and holding it as tight as possible for a full ten seconds while simultaneously using visualization techniques to put total and complete exhaustion into that muscle.
This highly important technique has been used by professional bodybuilders for decades. The key benefit of our ”Engorge Phase” is to completely flood and your muscles with a MASSIVE flow of fresh, nutrient rich blood. This tip leads to increased muscular definition, separation and fullness. This is the big difference that distinguishes between guys that workout and look great versus those who have a large chests when wearing the right t-shirt but it appear droopy shirtless and seem to have what you might call ”man boobs”. The engorge phase is key to creating the best look. It keeps your muscles full, hard and gives the appearance that they were etched out of granite from top to bottom.
The greatest benefit of the ”Engorge Phase” is related to its ability to improve neuromuscular control. Namely, it helps you develop the connection between mind and muscle. With consistent practice, will you become better able to maximally contract your muscles, which allows you to generate more force during your lifts. Moreover, you enhance your ability to target a given muscle during training, which results in heightened growth and improved symmetry.
You will never be able to really refine every single muscle in the body just by training. Workouts tend to hit just the big muscle groups. But for extra chest, deltoids, thigh and bicep definition the finishing touches are supplied by engorging. And when I say engorging, I mean immediately after each working set. A basic physique is developed by training, but engorging adds sharpness and quality.
A guy who trains but never engorges is like an uncut diamond; the quality is there potentially, but it cannot be seen. Like a diamond cutter bringing out the brilliance of the stone as he reveals only one facet, after my biceps workout I would flex the biceps as hard as I could and hold the pose for a minute or so, which gave them extra height and hardness.
